Training and Certification

This page covers the training the franchise system requires: initial training, ongoing training through the learning system in your admin portal, training your own staff, and where the cost rules live. Training: initial and ongoing: is required by the Franchise Training Policy, which governs, and the platform delivers it through the learning system built into the admin portal (/admin/lms-dashboard and its related sections): a curriculum with enrollment, progress tracking, assessments, and compliance records.

Initial training

Before or shortly after opening, you complete the initial curriculum: brand orientation, service standards, the systems you will use daily (booking, point of sale, CRM), and the policies that bind you. Your agreement may divide the cost of training, as stated in its fee schedule, but the obligation to complete it is not negotiable regardless of who pays. An owner who skips training does not just miss information; they start the relationship by signaling that the system's requirements are optional. That signal gets remembered.

Schedule training as a critical-path item. Everything downstream: hiring, marketing, opening day: assumes a trained owner.

Ongoing training and the learning system

The learning system is not a one-time course; it is the channel for everything the system needs you to know after opening: new service launches, standards updates, system changes, and compliance refreshers. Enrollment, curriculum, progress, assessments, and compliance tracking are all in the portal. When new required training is issued, it shows up as an enrollment: treat it with the same urgency as a standards update (see Living the Brand Standards), because it usually accompanies one.

Assessments are not decorative. If the system requires a passing score, a failed assessment is an incomplete requirement. Retake it, learn the material, and move on. The compliance record is what the franchisor sees on audit: "completed," with a date, or not. See Audits and Inspections.

Training your staff

Your staff's training is your responsibility, not the franchisor's: with one distinction: brand-required certifications for specific roles (groomers handling certain services, for example) may have to come through the system's curriculum. Check the Franchise Training Policy for which roles require system certification and which you train yourself. Either way, keep records: who was trained, on what, and when. "I trained them" without a record is a sentence, not an answer, when something goes wrong.

New hires complete role-required training before they are turned loose on customers, not "when things slow down." Things never slow down, and the customer who gets the untrained version of your shop does not know or care about your staffing timeline.

The cost question

Who pays for what: travel to initial training, ongoing course fees, staff certification costs: is stated in your agreement's fee schedule; see Your Franchise Agreement. Whatever it says, budget training as a real line item, not an afterthought. Operators who treat training as overhead to minimize end up paying for it anyway, as audit findings and standards cures.
