This page explains how money moves for your sales, the Payments area of Seller Center: overview, wallet, payouts, and methods: the hold that applies to new sellers, and how the Company recovers disputed amounts. This page summarizes the Payment Holds and Reserves, which governs, together with the payment terms of the Selling Terms of Service.
How money moves
The platform collects payment through its payment processor using destination charges. The buyer pays the platform; the platform's fee is taken at charge time; your share is routed to your connected payment account. Funds flow from the buyer, through the processor, to you. The processor performs seller identity verification for payment purposes and issues your Form 1099-K (see Business Verification and Tax Identity).
The legal basis is the limited payment collection agent term you accepted in the Selling Terms of Service
- You appoint the Company as your limited payment collection agent.
- The buyer's payment to the Company satisfies the buyer's obligation to you.
- The Company may delay or withhold payouts, reverse transfers to recover amounts owed, and enforce reserves.
- You bear losses from disputes, chargebacks, or fraud that you originated, as that document provides.
The Payments area
Payments → Overview (/seller/payments/overview) shows three figures
- Available balance: ready to pay out to your payout method.
- Pending balance: yours, but still within its processing and settlement period.
- Lifetime earnings: total since you started selling.
Wallet (/seller/payments/wallet) is the transaction ledger: every sale, fee, refund, and adjustment in one place. When a number does not look right, the wallet is where you find out why. Reconcile it monthly against your own books; the wallet is the Company's record and your books are yours, and the two should agree.
Payouts (/seller/payments/payouts) lists money sent from your wallet to your payout method, with date, amount, status, and destination method. Payouts are issued when your wallet reaches the payout threshold, on the scheduled cycle, and settle on a rolling delay of 7–14 days. The delay is the dispute window made mechanical: buyers have time to report problems before money leaves the processor's system, which is why a recovery can usually be taken from a balance that still holds the funds.
Payment methods (/seller/payments/methods) is how you receive payouts. At least one payout method is required. The page offers Credit Card, ACH / Bank Account, and PayPal. ACH is the standard method; funds typically arrive 1–3 business days after a payout is issued. Keep a backup method on file: a payout sent to a closed bank account is a delay you do not need.
New sellers: the hold
During your first 90 days of active selling, amounts collected for your orders are held for 21 days after delivery confirmation, and a rolling reserve of 10% of each disbursement is retained against future disputes and refunds. The hold is risk management for an account with no track record, not a penalty. On graduation to the standard schedule, disbursement is at delivery plus 7 days, with any reserve set under the Payment Holds and Reserves. The full terms are stated in the New Seller Payment Hold. The fastest way through the introductory period is consistent performance: on-time shipping, low dispute rates, and completed orders.
When the Company takes money back
If a buyer wins a dispute or files a chargeback, the Company recovers the amount from your payment balance by transfer reversal: and, if the balance does not cover it, from your linked bank account. If dispute or fraud activity spikes, or disputes go unanswered, the Company may restrict your payout capability while keeping funds available for reversals and refunds. The recovery and hold terms are stated in the Final Settlement and Payout Policy and the Chargeback Policy (Sellers) (Chargeback Policy (Sellers)).
Statements and tax documents
Statements (/seller/payments/statements) is where you download monthly statements, and Tax docs (/seller/payments/tax-docs) holds your Form 1099-K and related documents. The processor issues the Form 1099-K using the tax identity you provided at onboarding; if that identity is wrong, correct it before year-end, not after the form is issued. Statements, fees, and reconciliation are covered in Fees and Statements.
If something goes wrong
- Payout delayed: check whether the introductory hold applies, whether a reserve is being retained, and whether any dispute is holding funds; then check that your payout method is valid.
- Payout failed: usually a closed or changed bank account. Update the method; the payout is retried on the cycle.
- Wallet does not match your books: reconcile line by line. Fees, refunds, adjustments, and the rolling payout delay all create legitimate timing differences. If a line is genuinely wrong, raise it with support with the specific transaction identified.
- Negative balance: disputes and refunds exceeded incoming funds. The Company recovers the balance from future payouts; you do not need to send money, but you do need to stop the cause.
Fees are governed by the Fee Terms, the Seller Fee Schedule, and the Referral Fee Schedule; adjustments by the Fee Reversals and Adjustments; and statements by the Statement and Reconciliation.
