This page covers the gift cards shown at /customer/orders/gift-cards: cards you have bought for others and cards you have received: how to read a card's balance, and what to know before you buy one.
This page summarizes the Gift Card Terms, which governs.
How a card reaches your portal
Cards are matched to your account by email. A gift card appears in your portal when the recipient email on the card matches your sign-in email. Cards you have bought for other people also appear in your portal, labeled with the recipient's name, so you can check a remaining balance.
Reading a card
Each card shows its current balance prominently, the card number beneath it, and then the details: the original value, the card's status, who the card is from or for, and any message the buyer wrote. The balance is the amount you can spend now. The original value is the amount the card started with. A card with a zero balance stays on record; it is not deleted, but it cannot buy anything. A part-used balance, such as $13.20 remaining on a $50 card, is normal.
If you received a card
- In the salon, present the card number at checkout. The card itself carries this instruction: show the number at checkout in store.
- A card is also redeemed by entering or presenting the card number at checkout online. The available balance is shown before the card is applied.
Warning
Treat a gift card number as cash. The value is held against the number, and a person who has the number can spend the value. A lost or stolen card is replaced only on proof of purchase, such as an order confirmation or receipt, and only the remaining balance is reissued on a new number. Without proof of purchase, no replacement is available.
A gift card does not expire earlier than the law permits, and no dormancy or service fee reduces its balance except where the law permits the fee and the fee was disclosed when the card was issued. No cash redemption is available except where the law requires a remaining balance to be redeemed in cash; where it does, request it from support with the card number.
If you are buying a card
Buy gift cards at /gift-cards on the site. Before you buy
- Check the recipient's email address carefully. The card is issued to that address, and that is how it reaches the recipient's portal. A mistyped address leaves the card held under an address nobody signs in with.
- Write your message knowing it travels with the card and is shown in the recipient's portal.
- Keep your order confirmation. It is the proof of purchase needed if the card is ever lost.
Problems
- The recipient cannot see the card. An email mismatch is almost always the cause. Compare the recipient email on the purchase with the email the recipient signs in with. Support can re-attach the card to the correct account.
- A card you paid for shows a non-active status. A card that was never activated at purchase reads differently from a card that has been spent. This is a matter for support, not something that resolves by waiting.
