Your Address Book

This page covers your address book at /customer/profile/address-book: adding an address, the three address types, setting your default address, and editing or deleting an address.

Your address book is the same address book checkout reads. An address added here is available at checkout, and changing your default here changes the address checkout selects. There is one address book, not a separate copy for the portal and for checkout.

Adding an address

Select Add address. Two fields are required: address line 1 and city. The form will not save without them. The remaining fields: line 2, company, state, ZIP code, and phone: are optional and worth completing: the phone number is what a carrier uses if a delivery fails, and the company line matters for deliveries to a workplace.

Choose one of three address types

• Shipping: where orders are delivered.
• Billing: the billing address for a card.
• Shipping and billing: one address used for both. This is the usual choice for a home address.

Your first address is marked as your default automatically. For a later address, check "Use as my default address" if you want it to become the default.

The default address

Exactly one address is the default, and checkout selects it in advance. Select the star control on any other address to make it the default immediately, with no form to complete. The default is also the address shown in the dashboard's address summary. Keep it current when you move: orders shipped to an out-of-date default address are a common cause of the problem covered in Order Tracking.

Editing and deleting

Select the pencil control to open an address for editing, and the trash control to delete it. Two rules apply

• You must keep at least one address. Deleting your last address is refused. Checkout requires a delivery address, so add a replacement first and then delete the old address.
• Editing an address does not change past orders. Orders already placed keep the address they were shipped to. The address book governs future orders.

Problems

• "Address line 1 and city are required." Complete both fields and save again.
• A deletion is refused. Either the address is your last one, so a replacement must be added first, or your session expired during the action, so sign in again.
• The address saved, but checkout shows the old one. Checkout reads this same address book, so this is usually a page that has not been refreshed. Refresh checkout. If the old address still appears, check the type shown on the address card; the address may have been saved under a different type from the one you intended.
